Emergency kit for the car

If you have a car, prepare an emergency kit for the car and leave it there. The basic car emergency kit includes the following articles :

  • Food non perishable (like energy bars)
  • Water – in plastic bottles so that they don’t break in case of freezing (replace each six months)
  • Blanket
  • Back-up clothes and shoes
  • First-aid kit – containing a knife to cut seatbelts
  • Small shovel, scraper and snowbrush
  • Candle in a deep can and matches
  • Wind–up flashlight
  • Whistle – to draw attention
  • Roadmaps
  • Copy of your emergency plan and personal documents

In your car trunk :

  • Sand, salt or cat litter (non clumping)
  • Antifreeze/windshield washer fluid
  • Tow rope
  • Jumper cables
  • Fire extinguisher
