- If a hailstorm is forecast, park your vehicle in the garage to protect it.
- When hail starts to fall, shelter yourself. Do not get out to recover your plants, car or garden furniture, and do not go rescue the animals still outside. Hail comes down at great speed, especially when it is accompanied by violent winds – and even though it has never caused any death in the USA, several people have suffered of serious injuries.
- When a hailstorm occurs, stay inside and keep yourself and your animals away from the windows, glass doors and skylights that could break when hit by the hails. Avoid using the phone and do not touch objects made from metal, like stoves, radiators, metal pipes, and sinks.
- The speed of hails falling is very high, especially in presence of violent winds. When a hailstorm occurs, find a shelter and avoid underpasses or lowlands subject to floods.
Heavy rain
- Check the drain system around the house in order reduce the possibility of the basement being flood from heavy rain.
