The purpose of an emergency supplies kit is to make sure that enough essential supplies are on hand. Each person in the household should be able to survive for at least three days with the items available in these survival kits. Essential items are those are necessary for survival and include the following:
- Prescription medication for all family members.
- Extra sets of house keys and car keys.
- Emergency money.
- First aid kit (stocked).
- Canned food and manual can opener.
- 3-4 gallons of purified water for each individual in the household.
- Battery powered radio, flashlights, candles, matches, and extra batteries.
- Essential items such as dog food and/or baby food if needed.
- A phone that will work without household electricity (if possible).
It is also important to make sure that your vehicle is well stocked in case of an emergency. Items should include:
- First aid kit (well stocked).
- Jumper cables.
- A blanket.
- Maps.
- Shovel.
- Flashlight.
- Tire repair kit.
- Air Pump.
- Flares.
Emergency supplies should be kept in good condition and in waterproof containers. Check the kit regularly for expired items to ensure that you will be prepared should a natural disaster strike.
