If you are stuck in an avalanche, try doing the following :
- Get away from machines, equipment and heavy objects to avoid injuries.
- Hold on to something solid (trees, rocks, etc.) in order to not be taken away by the avalanche.
- Keep your mouth closed and clench your jaw.
- If the avalanche carries you towards the bottom, stay on the surface by making a swimming movement.
- Try to move yourself toward the side of the avalanche.
When the avalanche slows down, try doing the following :
- Get back to the surface.
- Create an air pouch in front of your face using your arm.
- Move your other arm toward the surface.
When the avalanche has ended :
- Get yourself out, if that’s possible.
- Breath calmly, especially if you are unable to get back to the surface.
- Stay calm and scream only when a searcher is nearby.
